Turkey Markdown

We hit it just right at the market last week.

I was looking to cook a couple of small chickens so we could have a meal and some sandwiches for lunch.

I couldn't believe my eyes when we spotted a fresh all-natural turkey marked down to $9.69.

That was a lot of meat for the money as we soon found out.

That turkey served three people five meals each.

Homemade gravy from the drippings and homemade bread provided what was needed for the hot turkey sandwiches.

And our feral cat made out pretty good too.

He ate all week long the scraps that we picked from that bird.

So, when we figured it out, each meal cost us .65 cents each.

And the cat ate for free!

Now those deals are few and far between, but how we love finding the really good stuff for a great price!

Salmon on the Menu

It has been awhile.

The price of salmon in the fish market has been way too much for our budget

Even when it had been on sale.

And usually it was the very pale farm raised variety of salmon that was being offered on the sale.

We arrived at the market at just the right time today.

We heard another customer state as we walked by them:

"Look at all that fish for two bucks" as he spoke to his partner and pointed to his basket.

We both turned and looked at each other mouthing the words: two bucks?

Without another word we headed directly to the fish counter.

They were clearing it out and the beautiful wild caught Alaskan sockeye salmon was $3.99 a pound.

Deep red fillets - just like the ones we watch the bears in Alaska catch on the webcams.

And the pollack fish was $1.99 a pound.

Dinner was the best with the salmon and the freezer has a couple of pollack meals awaiting us.

Man, that fish was delicious and what a treat!

Making Steps Count

As most of my readers know, I keep a count each day of my steps.

I also count all my calories which has become an easy task thanks to the MyFitnessPal app on my smartphone.

At the end of each day, I log my steps (or miles) at the beewellforlife.com website.

I get "credit" for the steps and calories, and a donation is made to the American Diabetes Assoc and the Women Heart group from the Bumble Bee Foods that sponsors the program.

I have done this for a few years now, and it only takes a minute to help out others in this small way.

I have just recently joined the Walgreens Rewards program, and have checked it out online to track my "points"

There is a load of info on that site, and I discovered the Walk with Walgreens program that they have.

Wouldn't you know, I can track my steps there too, and with the new rewards program they have, I can earn points on my account with my steps.

And when I have earned enough points, I can redeem them for a discount when I check out in the store or online.

Saving money is always right up my alley - so it is a win-win situation all the way around.
